When provisioning a Citrix environment you can come across some problems with the McAfee Agent.  The agent generated a unique ID to communicatie with the ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) server. As the same AgentGuid will be in the vDisk, the ePO server will see all provisioned servers as one.

While building a new Citrix XenApp 6.5 environment we got some weird messages in the Application Manager Logging. Every time someone logged in some random dll’s were blocked with names like t3j5irzu.dll.

I’ve used Process Monitor from the sysinternals suite to search which process was creating this dll’s. I’ve started process monitor as an administrator and logged on to the XenApp desktop with a test user.

Office Web Components 2003 (OWC) is antique. as you can see in the 2003 part. It isn’t supported anymore on the newer Windows versions OWC Page. There isn’t a upgrade for the software. When building a Citrix XenApp environment, there is always legacy software, like this.

OWC is simple software. It is a Internet Explorer add-on that shows excel reports. It contains a few files and some registry keys.. After some googling (Google knows almost everything if you use the right question), I found out that OWC doesn’t like UAC. So I disabled that in our vDisk (we use Citrix provisioning). Probably the reason that Microsoft doesn’t support it anymore.

I did work afterwards when I logged in as an administrator. It still didn’t work with my test user with restricted rights. I got the following error, this is the default error if OWC doesn’t work:

Safety settings on this machine prohibit accessing a data source on another domain

In a Citrix XenApp environment I’d like to have everything as smooth as possible. I’d like to have as less user interaction as possible. So I searched for a way to remove the following warning/information:

“the security application’s digital signature has been verified. Do you want to run the application”.
