When setting up a test environment in VMware Workstation for MDT and Windows 8.1 Update I came across this error message “The following networking device did not have a driver installed. PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_2000&SUBSYS_20001022&REV_10″ after importing the storage and network drivers into the boot image.

The networkdriver did not match the hardware. After adding the line ‘ethernet0.virtualDev = “e1000e”‘ to the vmx config file of the WIndows 8.1 VM the drivers worked.

ethernet0.present = "TRUE"
ethernet0.vnet = "VMnet2"
ethernet0.connectionType = "custom"
ethernet0.wakeOnPcktRcv = "FALSE"
ethernet0.addressType = "generated"
ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000e"
